Education

Educating ourselves on the importance of caring for our environment is the first step in our sustainability journey. Whether you’re a reader, or prefer audio and visual education, our team have collated our favourite educational pieces.

Books:

The Sustainable(ish) Living Guide – By Jen Gale

The Sustainable(ish) Living Guide is the perfect book for those who have a huge to-do list but still want to live the eco-friendly lifestyle. It covers every aspect of our lives from what we buy, the food we eat and how we travel and work. This book will provide you with a practical list of ideas to slot into that crazy to-do list, while also giving you a gentle push to put your knowledge into action.

Jen also has a podcast by the same name, which is witty, educational, and perfect for those who are time poor.

Use It All – By Alex Elliott-Howery, Jaimee Edwards.

A foolproof handbook on how to reduce food waste while eating generously. Use It All offers more than 230 recipes with unique flavour combinations, so you adapt a recipe to what ingredients you have on hand. It provides clever ideas on how to utilise the whole ingredient to reduce waste and save money, while also learning how to use old produce and offcuts to create something special. “Buy less, buy whole, use it all”.

Podcasts:

A Matter Of Degrees – Dr. Leah Stokes and Dr. Katherine Wilkinson

A Matter Of Degrees helps sharpen your curiosity on the topic of Climate Change while telling you stories about the powerful forces behind it. The show helps make sense of the big climate change questions that we can’t all understand. The perfect podcast to help kick off your climate activism journey without scaring yourself.

Implementation – What you can do at home

Although it can be daunting and disheartening at times, doing what we can as individuals absolutely contributes to the fight to preserve the Earth and help it flourish. Below are a few easy ways we at EverEscents, and at home, help leave a positive mark on the planet.

Composting – Reducing food waste is one of the most important ways to help combat global warming and divert organic waste from landfill. Our team has put together a composting guide that will not only motivate you to start your composting journey but keep it simple for you as well!

Choose low tox – Water pollution is a massive issue that is easier than we think to combat. One simple way to help prevent water pollution is to choose household products that are low in toxic chemicals. A big way chemicals wash into our water stream is through hair and body care. EverEscents Organic Haircare contains only Certified Organic and Naturally Derived Ingredients, all of our products are at least 76% Certified Organic Ingredients and up to 100% naturally derived, and all ingredient information can be found on our website, and on the back of the bottle.

Shop sustainably – A simple way to help reduce landfill, reduce environmental pollution, and save money is to make conscious purchase decisions. Below are a few team members hacks to do this.

  • Shop second hand – Not only is shopping second hand going to save you money, but it saves the planet as well! Keeping clothing and household items out of landfill and loved by a second home is a great way to cut down environmental pollution, while also scoring gorgeous, unique pieces.
  • Shop local – Head to your local Market instead of big chain supermarkets for your fresh food needs. By shopping local, you are not only supporting your community and farmers, but you are also purchasing fresh fruit and veg, without the unwanted pesticides, and multiple wraps of plastic. Bring your reusable shopping bags and make this part of your weekend ritual!
  • Shop less – An easy one that saves the planet, and our pocket, is to keep your items twice as long! This doesn’t provide any extra steps or research, simply care for your products and clothes to help them last you longer.
